The basis of a capacitive proximity sensor is a high-frequency oscillatory circuit that creates an electromagnetic field on the active surface of the sensor using a capacitor. The approach of a liquid or solid material to this surface causes a change in the capacitance of the capacitor and, thereby, a change in the gain in the oscillatory circuit. If the gain exceeds the threshold value, a control signal is generated.
